Vanderkitten Racing 2008 Women's Road Team

The mission of the Vanderkitten Racing Women's Professional Cycling Team is to promote health, well being and equality for women in professional cycling.

Welcome to the official website of the Vanderkitten Racing 2008 Women's Professional Cycling Team. Our 13 rider team is made up of 9, Cat 1 riders from the US, Canada and Australia and 4 Regional Cat 2 riders from Washington D.C., Northern California and Washington State. Our title sponsor and team owner for 2008 is Vanderkitten- Clothing for Women Who Kick Ass! from Berkeley, CA.

Melissa Sanborn - USA

Years Racing: 8
Melissa is an internationally experienced sprinter who will lead the team in criteriums this season. A native Oregonian, Melissa excels pack sprints, favoring short, fast courses and power climbs. Her racing experience has led her to coaching athletes through Wenzel Coaching; and when not with the team at races she works for a data forensics software company.

Leigh Valletti - USA

Leigh Valletti is one of Georgia's most popular riders and is the Captain of the 2008 Vanderkitten Women's team. A track and crit rider, Leigh is focusing on the Southeast Crit Series with the team in April. By day she works as a city planner for the City of Atlanta and enjoys spending time at the track.

Elizabeth Hatch - USA

Liz Hatch cut her teeth in bike racing when she took a trip to Europe to live her dream of racing with the toughest talent in the world. She returned to the states and became the founding member of the Vanderkitten Racing road program last season and her dedication and break-out performances put the team on the map.

Jenny Trew - CANADA

Jenny Trew is a fantastic sprinter and track rider from Calgary. She is a born leader and very serious on the bike with great vision in Crits. She will be focusing on crits for Vanderkitten in the early season and looking to bring home wins on the track as well.

Moriah MacGregor - CANADA

Moriah MacGregor is a Canadian National Team Member who is spending much of her early season in France racing the French Cup and other UCI races there. She will return to North America to contest races in the USA and Canada and will be splitting her time between Vanderkitten and Canadian National Team duties.

Leah Guloien - CANADA

Leah Guloien is a Canadian all arounder with and excellent sprint who excels at crits and one-days. A favorite up and comer from Canada, Leah did very well last season racing for Team Giant and joins Vanderkitten to race hard and develop her career into one of Canada's best riders.

Flavia Oliveria- USA

Flavia is Vanderkitten's climber and accels in tight bunches found in NRC crits moving smartly through the field. A fantastic all around rider, Flavia looks to lead the climbs for Vanderkitten at races like Mount Hood.

Mary Maroon - USA

Mary is a fine example of the transition of the love of bikes to a career racing and wrenching on bikes. The 2006 Messenger Sprints World Champion, Mary now works in Cupertino at Cupertino Bikes wrenching nd helping women of all abilities select the best equipment for their needs. Mary is racing Regional NRC events and Track events for Vanderkitten in 2008.

Tela Crane- USA

Years Racing: 6
Tela races for University of Western Washington for the Collegiate season and is a former Junior National Track Champion. Tela bring a wealth of experience to the Vanderkitten squad and looks forward to competing in Crits and Track events this summer for Vanderkitten.

Sonja Evers- USA

Years Racing: 12
Sonja Evers is a former professional mountain biker who took up road racing 2 years ago. This past season she won the grueling and prestigious Tour De Toona for Category 3's and followed up with an overall win at the Iron Cross V, the longest Cyclocross Race in the world. A great climber and all-arounder, Sonja will be racing on the East Coast this season and supporting the team at the Southeast Crit Series, the mid-atlantic series and other East Coast Races. She is one heck of a go-kart driver as well!
